Associate, Oracle Database Administrator

Role Summary

The successful candidate will be an experienced Oracle DBA with at least 5 years Production Database Administration experience, ideally gained in a busy production support environment. They must be self-motivated and responsible. The ability to prioritize under challenging workloads and operation under time constraint is crucial. They must follow established procedures and sufficiently document change and resolution steps. The candidate will be also expected to work in close collaboration with both development and other IT infrastructure teams.

Duties and Accountabilities

The Operations Team currently provides onsite cover between 06:00 and 19:00 Monday to Friday, on a staggered shift basis, which the candidate is expected to participate in. The working hours are 40 per week, although in practice the successful candidate may be expected to work additional hours, dependant on workload. There will also be regular occasions where weekend scheduled work and support will be required. The candidate would be expected to participate in an overnight/weekend on-call support rotation providing 24x7 coverage.

Business Competencies

  • Significant Oracle Database Administration experience on UNIX (preferable Linux and Solaris) platforms
  • All Oracle 9i, 10g DBA related technical skills required for everyday operational support (setup, maintenance, upgrade)
  • Excellent knowledge of Oracle performance analysis and tuning
  • Experience diagnosing and solving complex database system issues while maintain operations in a live environment
  • Working knowledge in SQL, Shell and Perl scripting
  • Experience with MS SQL server
  • Good knowledge in Red Hat Linux administration
  • Good understanding of TCP/IP; basic network administration skills
  • Good knowledge in database, operating systems and applications monitoring methodologies
  • University graduate highly desirable
